Yet another reason why your mother never should have pushed you out. Scientists have now isolated the genetic mutation responsible for "rumination" or the tendency to worry obsessively. OMG, doesn't everyone worry obsessively? Does this mean I'm a mutant? Am I the only one concerned about this?
The investigators must know a chronic worrier or two, because they reiterated the proviso that biology isn't destiny and that these faulty thought process can be retrained. Are they really experts? How much will that cost me? What if I'm the only person who can't be fixed?
I wonder if the personal genome company I profiled recently (23andme) has incorporated this into their list of identifiable traits. Hmmm.
Check out the Wall Street Journal's excellent article on the 'worry gene' study. Unless of course, you're worried about what you'll find.
