After starting more than two hours late, guests at the Marc Jacobs Spring ‘08 show were understandably confused when he appeared and took a bow. (Isn’t that kind of like a couple walking from altar to aisle at the beginning of a wedding?) Marc was joined by finale walk models looking like they’d just rolled out of bed with outrageously teased hair (a la Sarah Silverman in the new Gap ads).
Guests quickly caught on that they’d been punk’d by prankster Jacobs, who is looking almost unrecognizably fit these days. The show unspooled to reveal even more mischief in the form of exposed undergarments, deliberately sheer fabric panels and massive amounts of rock-n-roll deconstruction. It will be interesting to see what pieces actually make it into stores, but I was heartened to see some vintage look prints, albeit in small patches on some of the pieces.
